Socks by Rozanova
These socks are inspired by a collage by the Russian painter Olga Rozanova from the early 20th century. She called her collages 'paste-ons': a combination of planes, lines and discs and no incorporation whatsoever of real objects. Rozanova was part of the 'Supremus' which was a group of avant-garde artists (led by Malevich) who turned art into a cosmic showdown of geometric forms, tearing down all academic art rules.
The idea was that any painting could be broken down (mathematically) into a tumble of perpetual forms in a boundless environment. Her collages offer just that, a mesmerizing balancing act of shapes, enhanced by a sparkling use of carefully selected colours. Enjoy!
