Big shopper by Wiener Werkstätte

This big shopper is inspired by a funky steel print made by the early 20th century artistic collective known as the Wiener Werkstätte. Influenced by the British Arts and Craft movement, this group responded to the negative effects of industrialization. Factories were popping up everywhere, mass production was in full swing and the quality of manufactured goods had no longer priority.

The Wiener Werkstätt was the opposite to that, focusing on redesigning and creating everything with care, from jewellery to funky textiles and crafted furniture. The artists only wanted to produce pieces that were a labour of love, destined for someone who appreciated the craftmanship. Quality over quantity! But like all good things, their ride came to an end when tough times hit Europe in 1932. However, their legacy lives on, inspiring DIY’ers and design lovers everywhere to get creative and think outside the box.
