Rain hat by Dietrich
This rain hat is inspired by a 19th century botanical painting by German artist and botanical illustrator Adelheid Dietrich. She was skilled in painting incredibly detailed and realistic flowers and plants, a feast for the eyes. Because of the precision for showing plants so accurately, her paintings were often used for scientific studies. Dietrich was on that level, that her work was often compared to those of world famous 17th century Dutch stil life painters!
Despite her breathtaking still lifes, her work has remained relatively understudied. Today, some 50 paintings are known to exist, by far the majority in American private hands. Indeed, by the mid-19th century, Americans were fond of German artists, and paintings by Adelheid Dietrich took part in several exhibitions across the country. Yet there is no evidence that Dietrich herself ever visited the country of her fan base...
