Rainponcho by De Graag
This rainponcho is inspired by the work of Dutch artist Julie de Graag (1877 – 1924). In this artwork the East Indian Cherry is depicted, a colourful annual flower which has inspired many artists throughout history. De Graag’s most-used technique was wood-block printing with nature as her favorite subject and abstract as her chosen style.
This mix gives her work a traditional Japanese flavor, but don’t be fooled: in the early 20th century, Julie de Graag was an avant-garde artist exploring very modern approaches to art. She also designed calendar pages and smaller prints in books, such as one she created for art collector Helene Kröller-Müller!
