Socks by Voogd
These socks are inspired by the gardens of the Villa Borghese in Rome, painted in the early 19th Century by the Dutch painter Hendrik Voogd. Leaving for Italy at the age of 20 thanks to a small allowance of a patronage, Voogd lost his artistic heart to the Italian landscape. There he remained until his death in Rome, spending a lifetime in catching the Italian clear, golden sunlight in paint.
This resulted in some highly romantic and sizzling painted sceneries of Italy. You can easily recognize Voogd's original training as wallpaper painted, but more importantly, his great affection for Italy, which is evident to this day.
