Rainponcho by Delaunay (3 pcs)

Your rain poncho is inspired by a painting by French artist Robert Delaunay, who lived in Spain and Portugal for quite a few years. The intense sunlight in those countries fuelled his obsession with bright colours, as can be seen in this painting, painted in 1907 when Delaunay was just in his twenties and finding his voice as an artist. Delaunay had already been influenced by the Fauves, a group of artists who rejected realism. Instead of trying to capture reality perfectly, they concentrated on expressive tones to explore bold contrasts and create dynamic, almost shimmering movement.

In the painting, a parrot sits proudly among a variety of vases. These vases were exotic souvenirs from Robert Delaunay’s mother, brought back from -the then distant- East Asia. Although his mother was rather absent from his life as a child, she became his biggest supporter. You could say the painting goes beyond a typical still life. It really is a joy to look at and shows Delaunay’s fascination with how colours can tell their own story!
