Socks by Taeuber-Arp - Black (5 pairs)

Your pair of socks is inspired by a colourful geometric painting of a Swiss whirlwind of creativity: Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889 – 1943). Refusing to be put in a box, she worked as a performer, painter, teacher, designer, puppet maker, dancer, sculptor, illustrator and more. Basically, if it was artistic, Sophie did it!

Her creative journey took Taeuber-Arp once to Paris, where she joined the artists’ group ‘Circle and Rectangle’. It greatly inspired her and it is no wonder she was all about abstract forms and shapes. At first glance, the circles seem structured, but when looking closer, they take on a moving expression, directing the eye with the help of colour. An artist most definitely cherished by her country, she is the only woman who appeared on a Swiss banknote, with her portrait appearing on the 50-franc note from 1995 to 2016.
